Where it is

The district fills the blocks north of Second Street between Jefferson Street and North Limestone, reaching up to about Seventh Street and the streets around Duncan Park. Its homes are on North Upper Street, North Broadway, North Limestone, Jefferson Street and the numbered streets from Second to Seventh, and on Dakota, Florida and Maryland streets on the north side, according to the city’s address points. OpenStreetMap names Northside, Western Suburb, Fayette Park and Mulberry Hill as places in and around it.

Part of the district is also a local H-1 historic overlay, the Northside overlay, about 0.11 square mile around North Broadway and West Second, Third and Sixth streets. In an H-1 overlay, most exterior changes, new buildings and demolitions need a certificate of appropriateness first, under the urban county’s historic preservation zoning rules. The smaller Gratz Park, Fayette Park, Mulberry Hill and Western Suburb overlays sit at its edges. The Northside Neighborhood Association is on the city’s neighborhood association registry.
