Lexington power outages: Kentucky Utilities customers call 800-981-0600 or text OUTAGE to 454358. Blue Grass Energy members call 888-655-4243.

Last checked Oct. 12, 2026. Facts come from LG&E and KU, Blue Grass Energy and the City of Lexington’s street lights page. In an emergency, call 911.

Two electric utilities have lines in Fayette County, according to the city’s street light page, which lists both as owners of street lights here: Kentucky Utilities (KU), part of LG&E and KU, which serves about 553,000 customers in 77 Kentucky counties, the company says, and Blue Grass Energy, an electric cooperative. The name on your electric bill tells you which one to call.

Who to call

Kentucky Utilities: reporting and the outage map

KU gives four ways to report, according to its outages page:

  1. Call 800-981-0600 (the same number covers KU and Old Dominion Power).
  2. Report online through the outage form or My Account.
  3. Text OUTAGE to 4LGEKU (454358). KU uses the number you texted from to find the address, then asks you to confirm it. You can also give an account or meter number. Text STATUS to the same number for updates, per the texting page.
  4. Use the app, which reports outages and shows the map.

The outage map shows current outages with the cause, if known, and an estimated restoration time. KU publishes a guide to using the map (PDF). Register your cellphone number in My Account so texting works without extra steps.

When storms hit, KU asks customers not to file several online reports for the same problem, because duplicates slow its response; calling is faster when online volume is high.

Blue Grass Energy

Blue Grass Energy members report outages at 888-655-4243. Its Outage Central page has a live outage map, and the co-op publishes a service territory map if you are not sure whether your address is in its area.

Downed power lines

From KU’s downed lines page:

  • Call 911 if the situation is an emergency.
  • Stay away from downed wires and keep others away. Assume any downed wire is energized; there is no way to tell a live power line from a cable or telephone wire.
  • Report every downed wire to the utility immediately.
  • After a storm, take care clearing limbs and debris that may be touching a downed line.

Street lights

Street lights on public streets in Fayette County are owned and maintained by the city, the state, Kentucky Utilities or Blue Grass Energy. The city’s street lights page has a map: find the light, choose “Report outage,” then “View,” and it sends you to the right owner. KU also takes streetlight reports.

During a long outage

  • Check the outage map for an estimated restoration time before calling.
  • For city services after a storm, such as storm debris or a blocked street, call LexCall at 311 or 859-425-2255.
  • Watch for scams: LG&E and KU warns that scammers target utility customers. See its scam advice.
