  • Trash, recycling and yard waste: on Labor Day 2026 there was no city collection on Monday, Sept. 7, and Monday routes were picked up two days later, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, according to the city’s holiday collection schedule. Like Memorial Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Labor Day makeup day comes after the holiday, not before. Check the 2027 table when the city posts it, or see trash and recycling.
  • City offices: Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government offices closed Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 for Labor Day. The 2027 closure has not been posted.
  • Library: all Lexington Public Library locations will be closed Monday, Sept. 6, 2027.
  • Lextran: on Labor Day 2026 buses ran a Sunday service schedule, customer service (859-253-INFO) was open at the Transit Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the administrative offices were closed. Regular service resumed the next day.

Labor Day is closing day for the city pools that stay open after school starts. In 2026:

On Labor Day weekend these pools kept their post-season weekend hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the city’s aquatic centers page. Admission was $7 for adults and $5 for youth 15 and under. The free spraygrounds at Charles Young, Jacobson and Masterson Station parks stayed open into October (Oct. 4 in 2026). Labor Day weekend in 2026

  • Southland Jamboree, Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026: the free bluegrass series at Moondance Amphitheater listed its final date only as a rain date, according to the city’s schedule.
  • Summer Nights in Suburbia, Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, 7 to 9 p.m.: Honey Child played the free series at Moondance Amphitheater, with food and drink trucks and gates at 6 p.m. (city page).
  • Lexington Legends, Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026: the team’s last home game of the season at Legends Field, according to the team’s 2026 schedule release.
